Day 9

Today we are going to up those steps even more! According to most walking weight loss info I've looked at you should walk between 60,000 to 70,000 steps a week to lose weight. So in order to hit that all time goal we'll have to keep working our way up until we get to 10,000 steps a day. We are upping it a little at a time but we will eventually get there! In doing it this way we're not killing ourselves! The problem I have with most workouts and weight loss techniques is that it's all or nothing. They work you to death while starving you. I never make it past a week because I'm so sore and hungry. I gave up dieting not long after my first was born. I try to eat a well balanced diet. As far as the working out, This slowly building workout we've been doing has really helped me! I'm not in pain from jumping in over my head. I know that where we started was probably below some of your levels but it was easy to build on. It made us feel good to hit the goals of the daily challenge. At least I did!

The Challenge:

Walk 4700 steps! Don't forget to put on your pedometer first thing in the morning! You could be missing steps!

An easy going walk with your kids. (It counts towards your steps for the day.)

15 sit-ups.

See you tomorrow!

Day 8

I hope you hit your steps yesterday! I know it was a bit of a jump but in order to really drop the pounds we have to keep challenging ourselves!

The Challenge:

Walk 4500 steps.

15 sit-ups.

5 Push-ups.

Do a Belly-Dance! When you're alone or with people who couldn't care less(like your baby) Turn up the radio for 5 minutes and do whatever you think of when you think of Belly-Dancing. It don't matter if you have no idea what you're doing. Don't worry about looking like a fool. After all if you're alone who's going to notice. Whatever you feel like doing just go with it. Moving your hips around really works out your abs and butt!

Hope you have fun with today's challenge! See you tomorrow!

Ways to Walk More

1.)Take the stairs whenever you can.
2.)Strap the baby in the stroller and take an after dinner stroll with the family.
3.)Walk in place when you do the dishes or make dinner. This can really add up! I've added on 500 steps while cleaning up my kitchen.
4.)Take a lap around your house or the edge of your yard.
5.)Take a lap around your car before getting your kids out when you go out. You can double up and take a lap after putting your kids in the car too! On days with a few stops you can add up an extra 100 steps or so.
6.)Try family outings that require you to walk. We are huge Zoo fans!
7.)The Mall is the perfect place to walk if you can avoid the temptation to buy something! If you have little kids, You don't have to worry about it being to hot or cold outside. If you have teens, You can make a few laps while they look around.
8.)When you can head outdoors! Go to a nearby park and hit a path with the stroller. Most babies love the ride and you'll feel better getting some fresh air.
9.)Walk in place during TV. commercials.
10.)If you have the time take a lap around the grocery store before you start shopping.
11.)If you live in or near a city take in a day of window shopping.
12.)Instead of meeting your friends for a cup of joe, ask if they would be willing to meet for a stroll. They may welcome the change!
13.)Instead of your normal donations, Walk a 5K for a good cause! Some companies will even pay half of your entry fee. It's nice to walk with people and doing something for somebody else will make you smile!
14.)When you are able, Walk instead of driving.
15.)If your kids do any activities or sports where you have to wait consider walking around the area or even the parking lot(Just be careful!). I know if your kid is playing you'll want to watch but what about practices or classes where you are just sitting bored for an hour. Take some laps!

I hope some of these tips will help you! Always remember, Every little bit helps!!

Day 7

I got great news!! Lost pound this week!!! How are you doing? I'd love to hear about it!

The Challenge:

Walk 4500 steps (A big jump today, I know! But we can do it!)

10 sit-ups

Don't forget your water!

Remember you can do it!! See you back here tomorrow!

Day 6

I hope you had fun playing with the Family yesterday!

The Challenge:

Walk 4000 steps! A repeat today to help us all get used to it.

10 "baby weighting lifting" lifts

Do you remember windmills from when you were a kid? Well if you have school age kids ask them. They would love to show you! If not, You stand with your feet shoulder width apart. Put your arms straight out to your sides like you're going to give someone a huge hug. Bend in half at the waist only to bring your right hand to your left foot. Get it as close as you can. Try to hold for a 3 count. Return to the original standing position. Repeat on the other side. This completes one rep.

Do 10 reps of Windmills.

Don't forget your water today! At least two water bottles or large glasses!

That's the challenge for the day! I'll see you back here tomorrow!

Day 5

Hi there,
Today's challenge involves the family.

The Challenge:

Walk 4000 steps

Enjoy an activity with your family. The only rule to this is it has to be active. What you do will depend on your interests, your kids and the weather but here are a few of my humble suggestions-A family walk, soccer game, tag football, Twister, running around the playground, dancing, volleyball, basketball, Wii Boxing, Golf, Bowling, whatever gets you up and moving together!

10 push ups

Enjoy some family time!! I'll see you back here again tomorrow!

Day 4

Today I want to talk about being hydrated. Remember that your body needs water! If you are nursing you need water even more. With the weather getting warmer we all have to turn our eyes to our water bottles.

I read a study that ice water helps you to lose more weight then cool water. The theory is that you burn more calories because your body has to warm the water up. In reality this is probably complete crap but since it costs nothing and requires no additional effort on my part, I'm game.

The Challenge:

Walk 3500 steps throughout the day.

Drink 2 or more bottles or large glasses of water. If you already do this keep up the good work. If not, It not only helps to hydrate you, it helps you drop pounds! As for the ice, I'll leave that up to you.

Baby Weight Lifting- Lay flat on your back with baby laying on your chest. Place your hands around baby and lift straight up into the air in front of you. Hold for a three count. Bring baby down for a kiss and then back up. Repeat 10 times. Please note if your baby is small, has poor head control or for any other reason should not be held like this do not do this move! If your baby is either too little, too big, or you don't have one you can use a bag of flour or sugar (hold the kisses though, lol).

10 sit-ups. (Are these finally starting to get a little easier? I don't know if it was just pregnancy or the C-section but my Abs were completely useless! They are slowly improving just by doing the few sit-ups! Amazing what so little can do!)

That's it! See you back here tomorrow!

Day 3

Hey there,
Hope you're all doing well.
Here's the new daily challenge:

Walk 3250 steps today. Don't forget to strap on your pedometer in the morning!

10 sit-ups

Turn on the radio to something upbeat and dance, dance, dance for at least 5 minutes! Pull the kids in on this one! Little kids love to boogie! Big kids may roll their eyes but they'll get over it, lol!

See you back here again tomorrow!

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Day 2

I hope you all did great today!! We're going to step it up a little more.

Your Challenge is to:

Walk 3000 steps through out the day. Just hook on your pedometer in the morning and go about your day. Check it throughout the day to make sure you stay on track!

During one commercial break walk in place.

Remember you can do this! I'd love to hear how you're doing!

Meet me back here tomorrow evening for a new challenge!

Monday, May 10, 2010

Day 1

Let's get started! The challenge today is not going to sound like much but it's the first step! The first step is always a big deal!!

Required equipment-Pedometer (or a 1 mile track)

Walk 2500 steps or one mile today. You can do this walking anywhere and at any speed as long as you get the steps in by day end.

Do 10 sit-ups.

That's it for today. I'll see you back here tomorrow evening for your next get fit challenge.

Intro

Every evening I will post a challenge for the next day. As we move along they will get more difficult. There will be no starving or crazy diets. Any of us can drop 5 pounds eating nothing but grapefruit for 6 weeks! But alas you can not be healthy eating only one food for the rest of your life or happy for that matter! Most of the challenges will center on a more active lifestyle. I don't have all the time in the world to dedicate to such things and I'm sure that you don't either. There will not be hours spent in the gym away from your family. I believe to lose weight and keep it off we must be happy and in order for moms to be happy our families must be happy too. All workouts/challenges will be kid friendly. Things that they can do with you.

I don't own a bunch of fancy equipment and won't be buying any! I couldn't afford a home gym in my dreams! I don't belong to a gym. Everything will be done with everyday items you find around the house. The only items you need are a pedometer to keep track of your walking. I will include both steps and a mileage estimate on how far those steps will likely take you. So if your pedometer only does one you'll be fine. Pedometers are available at just about every discount chain. Nicer models can be found at sporting goods stores. They are available at just about every price point. You don't need anything fancy so get whatever you can comfortably afford. If you don't have one and still want to take a walking challenge I suggest public walking trails that tell you the approximate mileage or use your car odometer to determine a half to one mile walking coarse you can use to add up to that days challenge.

The only other things you need is a stroller to take your little tykes with you, comfortable cloths and shoes made for walking so your feet don't get sore.

I wish all of you all the luck in the world! You can do this! You can drop the weight! You can look forward to swimsuit season! OK, Maybe that last ones a bit of a stretch, LOL! But we don't have to dread it so badly!

Come on Ladies! Let's get moving!

Don't forget to check with your doctor before starting any exercise program.
